Opened by the Lord Mayor of Sheffield on 20th December 1920, the Abbeydale Picture House was the largest and most luxurious cinema in Sheffield until it's closure in 1975.
40 years later, films and events are breathing life back into the building which is emerging as one of Sheffield's most exciting new venues, bringing together history, art and community.
The Abbeydale is undoubtedly Sheffield's finest old cinema with a heritage that makes it stand out. But it isn't just the history which makes it unique; it offers itself as a highly functional, multi-purpose venue hosting everything from gigs to film screenings, pop up cafés and bars. The Abbeydale Picture House is a breathtaking new home for the arts, in the heart of one of Sheffield’s most vibrant communities.
